The federal government has once again, appreciated the courage of the Globacom Limited in driving down Glo-1 submarine cable backbone to Nigeria, saying the feat had reduced the cost of access to digital information in Nigeria.

Explaining more during his presentation at an conference in Lagos, the Director in charge of e-Government in the Federal Ministry of Communication, Temitope Fashedemi, disclosed that the facility had brought the Internet closer to the people.

The official further revealed that the Glo-1cable has discouraged many companies from hosting their data offshore, saying it was more secure for Nigerian companies and organisations to domicile their data in servers in Nigeria using local service providers which Glo-1 has brought to their doorsteps.

Earlier in the Globacom’s insightful presentation on the topic ‘Towards a Digitalised Future’ and the paper presented by Tega Agofure, Globacom made it clear that the future was already in sight as people were already living their daily lives using dozens of digital connections for business and personal convenience.

The leading national carrier was of the believe that “besides smart phones, there are already billions of connected objects across the world with smart sensors embedded  in cars, microwaves ovens, fuel dispensers, generators, and so many other tools and appliances, which interact and provide real time data to businesses and individuals”.
