In keeping with their joint corporate social responsibility and business development drive, leading national carrier and grandmasters of data, Globacom and Huawei are going forward across Nigeria to deliver Huawei smartphones, Glo 4G data package to brilliant students while the schools receive Glo 4G routers.
Recently, the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), and the University of Port Harcourt (Uniport), have become the latest schools to benefit from the scheme.
By the design of the scheme, five outstanding students are selected from each of the two schools as well as the managements of both institutions were presented with the packages by officials of the companies.
The scheme is further structured to encourage a total of 150 brilliant students with the highest CGPA from 30 institutions with Huawei smartphones and Glo 4G data package, while the schools receive Glo 4G routers.
Details of latest recipients show that Omolara Bakare; Okunoye Olayinka, Lawal Adeshile; Adebiyi Emmanuel; Phillip Onochiemume; and Ogundeji Emmanuel were presented with the support packs in FUTA, while in UniPort, Esther, Juliet Onwuka, Glory Chilaka, Munachiso Wodi, and Joshua Tom all received same packs.
In his acceptance speech after receiving the routers, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape, thanked Globacom for the gesture, and expressed optimism that it would boost research and learning in the school.
Also responding, the Dean, Students Affairs, UniPort, Dr. Otu Ekpeyong, who represented the Vice Chancellor, acknowledged the wonderful relationship the institution has with Glo.
Industry analysts say Glo remains the highest supporter of education industry in Nigeria as it has been in the habit of deepening delivery academic infrastructure across institutions of learning.
Besides, Glo 4G data has equally become amongst the fastest and most reliable in Nigeria as this feat was further made manifest with the surging migration to Glo 4G data bundles by subscribers resulting in the telecoms gaining the most new internet users with 950,115 customers.
Statistics made available by the telecoms regulator, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), revealed that Glo data subscription jumped from 27,486,271 recorded in February, 2019 to 28,436,386 in March leaving other networks including MTN and Airtel a distant second and third with 351,657 and 13,552 data subscribers respectively.
