British-Nigerian singer and songwriter, Ola Onabule and two other African contemporary musical exponents will this week take centre stage on a new edition of CNN African Voices sponsored by telecommunications company, Globacom.
Highly prolific, Onabule’s career spans two decades with over eight albums to his credit. His first album “More Soul Than Sense” was released in 1995 after which he featured at major international fora including the British Summer Jazz series and the Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy amongst many others.
Others are Johannesburg-based eclectic band, Bombshelter Beast, a group which nurses the mission to produce “music to make feet dance and heart happy” and Sudan’s first female bassist, Islam Elbeiti. Bombshelter Beast was established in 2015 and consists of colourful, brilliant and innovative artistes who perform a mixed-grill of musical styles christened “Afrobalkan Skadubhall” while Khartoum-based Elbeiti has broken the glass ceiling as her musical instrument of passion used to be the exclusive preserve of men.
Her intriguing mantra “inhale poetry and exhale the pain. Feel the bass and let it rain” is an expose on the personal philosophy on which her music is pronged.
The programme goes on air on the Cable News Network, CNN, at 9.30 a.m. on Friday with repeat editions at 3.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. on Saturday and 11.30 a.m and 6.30 p.m. on Sunday. More repeats will be broadcast at 10.30 a.m. on Monday and 4.30 a.m. on Tuesday this week.
