Contrary to Nigeria where several recent Turnaround maintenance (TAM) have failed to yield any result, the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) in Ghana has completed discharge of about 950,000 barrels of crude ahead of resumption of refining process having completed repairs of boilers.
The expected resumption of refining process is coming after several months of shut down.
Within the period of the shutdown, Ghana has been importing fuel and the high side of forex access was a key minus for the economy, thus prompting the lawmakers to give marching orders for the immediate repairs and resumption of production to stabilize the economy.
Business Hilights Ghana Bureau chief reports that prior to the arrival of MT British Heritage with the 950,000 barrels, workers of the refinery, had expressed fear of continued shutdown as the observed intermittent idleness of the plant many cause job loss going forward.
Refining activities at the Ghana’s national refinery, Tema had halted over the months considering sudden interest in imported products until forex was seen as crippling national reserves.
The Tema Oil Refinery in Ghana has a capacity to refine 45,000 barrels per day (bpd) and can produce petrol, kerosene, aviation fuel, Naptha and LPG, but in the last one month, it has failed to refine anything as imported products, just like Nigeria, flood everywhere.
