FRSC puts paid to threats, sends 19 drivers to madness test, impounds 305 vehicles
The leadership of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Thursday in Abuja disclosed that apart from impounding about 305 vehicles, it has effectively referred 19 drivers to test for psychological and mental balance.
The Corps Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, made the disclosure at the national workshop for operators of driving schools in Abuja, was quick to reveal that the 19 errant drivers returned with negative reports of psychological imbalance which compelled the agency to charge them for willful abuse of traffic laws.
Many of them were originally arrested for offences ranging from using the telephone while driving, to other light violations among other traffic offences within one week.
Giving insights on the success of the ongoing ‘Operation Cobra,’ which was meant to check indiscipline on the roads by motorists, Oyeyemi disclosed that about 345 life-threatening offenders have been booked since the commencement of the scheme.
According to him, “Those who reported to redeem their vehicles were referred for psychological test and 19 of them have returned with negative reports, portending willful flouting of regulation.
“I hereby reiterate the corps’ resolve to commit motorists who commit life-threatening offences to psychological evaluation, because such negative disposition casts aspersions on the true people that Nigerians are — a cultured, disciplined and enterprising people.”
The FRSC chief further advised operators of licensed driving school to take full advantage of the workshop by making positive contributions to all issues and imbibing emerging trends in the sector.
Besides, he revealed about 29 driving schools offenders had been sanctioned nationwide for offences ranging from abuse of licence to falsification of documentations.
