More reactions are still trailing the recent self indictment by the federal government through the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola on the status of the South-South, South-East roads as worst across the federation.

Latest in the haul is the South-East, South-South Governors’ Forum (SESSGF) through the chairman and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Emmanuel Udom.

A statement issued by the Akwa Ibom State’s Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Udoh, on behalf of the Forum, said ‎one of the key resolutions reached by the Forum at the end of the year meeting presided over by the Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, at Government House, Uyo was a strong request for the increment of federal allocations to the dual region to fast track infrastructural development.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting said improved revenue allocation to states in the zone should reflect the current realities in the prices of crude oil in the international market so as to make the states viable and respond to the expectations of the people.

The governors expressed concern at the deplorable state of roads in the two zones and asked the federal government to give the areas more attention in infrastructural development‎.

Accordingly, SESSGF made a case for the federal government to relinquish all federal roads to states where such roads are located and facilitate concession of the road with adequate legislation.
