Explosion: Mourning community worried on none arrival of NNPC on fresh leaking pipeline
Barely few days after two neighbouring communities in Osisoma Local Goverment Area of Abia State were thrown into mourning over the pipeline fire that claimed over 60 lives, youths in one of the communities have raised fresh alarm for another leaking pipeline in the area.
The community said the pipeline in Umuaduru village has been gushing out products confirmed to be premium motor spirit (PMS) fuel.
In a statement issued by the image maker of Osisioma Ngwa Youth Congress (ONYC), Nwabueze Princewill, the group they had for more than 24 hours (Sunday), contacted the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation on it, but they are yet to respond as products turn to flooding in the Village.
The group however disclosed that whereas their Surveillance and Security Arm of ONYC had cordoned off the affected areas, they have advised residents of the community to steer clear of the areas pending repairs.
Princewill hinted in the statement that his community is set to approach a federal high court to seek redress over the inferno and compensation from NNPC on the corporation’s carelessness in emergency responses.
He ruled sabotage, saying just like the youth have informed NNPC of the new leakage, they had long given notice of the burnt pipeline, but NNPC was weak in taking the necessary action.
ONYC statement averred that “The entire Osisioma Ngwa Community was rudely awoken in the early hours of Friday, 12th October, 2018, at about 1:00 AM by a fire accident/pipeline explosion that simultaneously happened at Umuimo and Umuaduru villages.
“As at the time of making this report, over 60 persons have been confirmed dead, while about 100 other victims are receiving treatment, with only very slim chances of survival, as the injuries are too severe,” the youths revealed and called action to avoid another blood bath.
