Deliver power sector now or resign, enough of reasons, counter reasons, CD tells Fashola
The intractable epilepsy hobbling the nation’s power supply and mainly the South East zone has attracted the attention of Campaign for Democracy (CD), forcing the body to give the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN) up till 30 days from now to fix the ailing sector or resign his appointment as a minister immediately.
In a communiqué issued at the end of a press conference in Onitsha, Anambra state weekend, angered National Publicity Secretary of CD, Dede Uzor A. Uzor said Fashola has failed to deliver the sector or show appreciable signs of success.
It would be recalled that the present administration had met 4,320 megawatt but has been struggling to even return the productivity to the same value two year on.
CD noted that rather, Fashola allowed the megawatt to decrease to less than 1,000 at the moment; a situation which he said forced Nigerians to witness zero megawatt on January 30, this year with a total nationwide power blackout.
However, as a way out, the group rather suggested that the federal government should detach Works and Housing ministries from the Power ministry and handed them over to another minister to oversee, to enable Fashola concentrate only on power which is presently the most important need of every average Nigerian.
Another abysmal failure pointed out by CD during the conference was the hanky-panky game being played by Discos in not giving out prepaid meters to Nigerians, rather they have continued to milk Nigerians via estimated bills under the supervisorship of Fashola.
The 30Day ultimatum also covered the delivery of prepaid meters within the period.
