…As GED rules out deliveries on pipelines

Strong indication has emerged revealing that traffic crisis on Lekki-Epe highway, the only entry and exit road to the corridor may be unbearable as soon as upcoming Dangote Refinery comes on stream.

This is coming from the revelation by the company’s Dangote Group Executive Director, Devakumar Edwin, that the refinery will deliver its fuel to Nigerian consumers by road and seaports.

The official told Reuters that there is no plan yet, to construct pipelines for deliveries, noting that the refinery will among other things, effectively replace all of the country’s fuel imports once fully operational.

Business Hilights recalls that Dangote refinery currently nearing completion will process 650,000 barrels of crude per day.

Explaining more at the Oil Trading and Logistics Expo in Lagos on Tuesday, Edwin averred that “The fuel would go via “shuttle” boats to Warri and Calabar, and that other deliveries would go in trucks.”

Before now, transport experts had expected that the refinery would build a pipeline or other method of getting its fuel to consumers due to the horrible experiences being suffered on Apapa port access roads due to petroleum tankers.

Though Edwin revealed that the company is fixing and expanding one of the current roads to Lekki while the Lagos State Government will build another toll road to aid the shipment, experts are still not convinced that the highway will experience traffic sanity.
