Though former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to name Gbenga Daniel, former governor of Ogun State as the Director-General of his campaign organisation, leading political analysts have picked holes on the idea.

According to them, Daniel may not have the needed political claws and sagacity to drive such a comprehensive assignment if Atiku wishes to go far in 2019 elections.

However, a stronger set of political pundits hold the view that with Daniel’s stronghood in the west and rising political relevance of Atiku across the entire north, the only needed tonic for the team to pick a respected top politician in the east or south from the technocrat crowd to pull the final campaign onslaught for 2019 presidential elections.

According to an aide of the former vice president, both leaders are currently holding series of meetings to fashion out ways to ensure victory for Atiku in the forthcoming presidential election.

Daniel, who contested for the position of national chairman of the party in the last convention of the PDP which was won by Uche Secondus, was among Atiku’s entourage when he declared his intention to vie for the presidency in Port Harcourt last month.

A credible source told Business Hilights on Tuesday that “Atiku has finally settled for Otunba Gbenga Daniel as his campaign Director- General. Both leaders are currently in Dubai holding high-powered meetings. It is expected that the announcement will be made in few days”.

On when they will fly in, the source said plans are underway to continue the needed build up of campaign structures in every state of the federation ahead of PDP presidential primaries which is yet to get a date.
