The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has disclosed that CMA CGM has agreed to suspend the application of the peak season surcharge on ships calling in Nigeria from 1st October 2020.
The Nigerian Shippers’ Council stated that CMA CGM communicated the suspension through a letter from its base in Marseilles, France, to its Executive Secretary/CEO, Hassan Bello.
According to Rakiya Zubairu, Head of Public Relations, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, ‘’the French Container Transportation and Shipping Company CMA CGM has followed in the footsteps of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) in announcing the suspension of the application of the peak season surcharge on ships calling in Nigeria from 1st October 2020.
‘’The suspension of the peak season surcharge was contained in a letter sent to the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council Mr. Hassan Bello, today (September 8, 2020) from the Head Office of CMA CGM in Marseilles France.’’
It would be recalled that Mediterranean Shipping Company had earlier suspended the application of the surcharge from 1st September 2020 as a result of protests by the Nigeria Shippers’ Council and stakeholders.
