Fresh discoveries have emerged on why President Muhammadu Buhari avoided attending the official handover of the new ECOWAS border posts in Badagry to his Republic of Benin counterpart, Patrice Talon from the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Investigations by Business Hilights Intelligence Unit (BHIU) revealed that the presidential entourage including the Governor of Lagos State and his team all skipped use of the road to fly direct on a Chopper due to well over 134 potholes and several deep water-logged spots on the highway.
Nigerians living on the axis had been suffering untold hardship which they had expected their leaders to experience at least for one day but that was not to happen as all government attendees flied over and above the notorious international highway.
The Lagos-Badagry Expressway remains a major artery in West Africa’s largest economic hub, Lagos State, but the observed negligence by previous federal governments forced the State Government few years ago to take up the challenge of expanding the highway to a 10-lane with Metrorail infrastructure.
Though Lagos is driving the scheme with facility from China, recent drop in construction activities is linked to rains and funding.
Followers of history of the road said the development of the highway to international status was approved by Shagari-Ekwueme administration, but was cancelled by Gen Buhari after his Coup in 1983.
