Best option for Seaport Terminal Operators remains system automation—Bello
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Barr Hassan Bello has advised seaport terminal operators to embrace automation system for cargo clearance to deepen seamless service delivery.
Speaking during a recent management visit to a number of operators including SIFAX Port &Cargo Handling Services, Five Star Logistics Limited and APM Terminals in Lagos, he averred that “The adoption of automation will improve cargo clearance, minimize the current gridlock being experienced in Apapa and reduce human traffic at the terminals”.
According to him, “the Ease of Doing Business Executive Order is realizable when there is synergy among various players in the transport and logistics chain”.
Bello, who emphasized the need for all terminal operators to register with the Council in addition to maintaining functional websites and proper records of daily transactions, noted that the digital migration will further help regulators and government in policy formulation in the sector.
He made it clear that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council as Port the Economic Regulator is interested in ensuring international best practice and strategies that will drive ease of doing business at the ports.
