Even as the House of Representatives deepens its investigation on why the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), without recourse to constituted authority made a silent withdrawal from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) dividends account, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the representatives of Nigeria on the Board of gas firm.
The presidential approval saw former Minister of State for Petroleum, HRM Edmund Maduabebe Daukoru, emerge the new board chairman.
A memo endorsed by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva explained that President Buhari also endorsed the reconstituted Board of Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT).
The Minister listed new representatives of the Nigeria Government on the LNG Board are Edmund Daukoru as the Chairman while Henry lkem-Obih, Rabiu Sulaiman, Bitrus Nabasu and the head of NNPC, Mele Kyari, are members.
For the Bonny Gas Transport Limited, while Edmund Daukoru is the president, other members are Doyin Akinyanju, Abdul Abba, Bitrus Nabasu, and Mele Kyari.
Chief Sylvia explained that the current board members have been on the respective boards since 2005 and it became imperative to inject fresh ideas into the governance of the companies
While commending the chairman and other outgoing board members of NLNG and BGT for steering the companies to record successes, particularly the Train 7 FID, the Minister wished them good health and more successes in their future endeavours.
In his words, “To the incoming members of the Board, I congratulate you on this appointment and your selection is based on your experience, integrity and expertise. I, therefore, urge you to bring all these to bear in the discharge of your responsibilities in line with the progressive agenda of Mr President.”
Business Hilights recalls that Dr. Daukoru is a former Minister of State for Petroleum and had served as Secretary General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in 2006.
Chief Daukoru, who became the Amayanabo (traditional ruler) of Nembe Kingdom in 2008, was born on 13 October, 1943.
With a Phd in Geology from Imperial College London, new board chairman of NLNG boasts of several decades of experience in the Oil industry working with both Shell and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
