Just as more prominent top flight politicians are still declaring their readiness to run for presidency under the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party leadership has come out to note that its ticket for the 2019 presidential election remained open to all members.

In a statement by its National Organizing Secretary Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), PDP dismissed as untrue reports that it had already endorsed somebody for the position, saying there is no room for impunity and imposition of candidates.

PDP noted that the recent transparent primaries conducted in Ekiti State last month that produced the PDP candidate for the July 14 gubernatorial election, was a testimony to the fact that the party was determined to pursue rule-driven processes.

Accordingly, the party assured members, particularly presidential aspirants and their supporters, that the contest would be open and transparent and Nigerians would be happy at the outcome.

Whereas former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had since declared to run, only weekend in Enugu, former Governor of Cross river State, Mr. Donald Duke, in a public lecture at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, said he is ready to serve and recover the country from its current multifaceted drawbacks’.
