‘Apapa/Oshodi highway Fashola used to campaign against PDP in 2015 worst now’
As the life and time of the first term of President Muhammadu Buhari (2015-2019) now count in days, stakeholders in Lagos Ports business have decried the worsening state of the two ports access roads.
Many of them expressed shocks on why upon the agreed importance of the Apapa/Oshodi expressway, in four years, nothing was done to give the axis facelift so as to align with the ease of doing business that have become the official campaign of the current Buhari administration.
Many of the aggrieved Port stakeholders who spoke with Business Hilights on the sorry state of the highway and associated ports access roads called for re-examination of the mindset of the Minister of Power, Works and Housing who fortunately doubles as the immediate former Governor of Lagos State over his official silence on a topical issue he was battling even as governor.
The Managing Director, Kotzmatz Media Konsults Ltd, Okey Ibeke, recalled in an interview that “During the 2015 campaign, Fashola used the Apapa/Oshodi expressway as a campaign tool against the then government.”
Continuing, he decried the worsening state of the road and revealed that “At times I do not take my vehicle; I take a commercial vehicle, sometimes I trek or take a bike. We have lost virtually all our clients; nobody comes to our offices again”.
“Once you tell them your office is in Apapa that is the end.” Tin-Can port commences truck call up “The risk is in the discomfort of going on commercial vehicles or a bike, attacks from the area boys and so on. A lot of people have died riding on Okada and the most unfortunate thing is that the federal government does not care and is not doing anything to address the situation.”
He added that the federal government played politics with the road situation and ended up leaving it in the worst state.
Ibeke recalled that “Fashola was the governor of Lagos and we know that he fought the then federal government under former president Goodluck Jonathan, for allegedly neglecting the Apapa road.
In fact as the Governor of Lagos State then, Fashola claimed that the port access roads were like that because the ruling political party at the time was strangulating Lagos.
Ibeke therefore queried if Fashola’s ruling party, the APC followed PDP negative policy against Lagos even under a government he is serving as a super minister?
