The Oyo State Government is on the verge of completing a new partnership deal that will lead to the generation of about 2,000MW to grow the state economy, using the window of Independent Power Project (IPP).

Already, several states had sealed similar deals including Lagos, Akwa Ibom and some more states are warning up to do same.

It would be recalled that the Rivers State government under the former administration of Mr. Rotimi Amaechi had succeeded in similar business but got stocked in using the power based on legislative constrains which only empowers the federal government to handle issues bordering on power transmission.

Already, the Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajumobi, who is driving the scheme has written to the National Energy Regulation Commission (NERC), seeking approval to generate 2000Mw embedded power.

During a recent meeting with the Management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Wasiu Dauda noted that the state government is poised to proffer a lasting solution to the challenge of power generation shortfall in the state in order to improve the social and economic growth of individuals and corporate organizations.

According to him, statistics show that the state is in daily need of about 1265MW, and what is coming now is far below the rising demand, hence the new power deal.
