The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded about eight domestic airlines for their complications on Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC), thus forcing the regulator to classify them “not-active, suspended or expired AOCs.”
Business Hilights gathered that an AOC is the approval granted by a national aviation authority (NAA) to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes.
This requires the operator to have personnel, assets and system in place to ensure the safety of its employees and the general public.
Additional detail further revealed that AOC certificate contains details including the aircraft types and registrations to be used, for what purpose and in what area – specific airports or geographic region.
Whereas the affected carriers include Associated Aviation Limited, Chanchangi Airlines Limited, Hak Air Limited, King Airlines and Travel Limited, Topbrass Aviation, FirstNation Airways, Kabo Air and Skyjet Aviation Services Limited, indigenous operators with up-to-date AOCs include Air Peace, Arik Air, Allied Air, Azman Air, Bristow Helicopters, Caverton Helicopters, Dana Air, Executive Jet, General Global Aviation, Max Air, Med-View Airline, OAS Helicopters, Omni-Blu Aviation, Overland Airways, West Link Airways and Quroum Aviation.
NCAA report weekend noted that “38 airlines were issued and re-issued the AOCs between February 3, 2016 and January 9, 2019.”
