Ecobank on Global Money Week, preaches Youths financial awareness
Pan-African financial conglomerate, Ecobank is currently driving a nationwide campaign on deepening youth’s financial awareness on the heels of the Global Money Week which started today.
In a terse statement sent to its customers, the bank said “It’s Global Money Week, a worldwide event highlighting the importance of helping children and young adults develop the knowledge and skills to make sound financial decisions. This year’s theme is ‘Plan your money, plant your future’.
“Did you know that only 32% of people living in sub-Saharan Africa are financially literate? We can change this! By empowering future generations with the knowledge and skills to make smart financial decisions, we can make a real impact on financial inclusion and well-being. Making informed financial decisions can also have a ripple effect on the environment and wider society.
Continuing, the bank noted that “At Ecobank, we are committed to doing our part. For example, our Ecobank Day 2022 activities targeting mostly women and the youth helped increase financial inclusion across Africa; and our partnership with Junior Achievement Africa has educated over 600,000 young people across the continent in financial literacy.
Here are some tips for financial literacy among young people:
* If you have young children, use pocket money as a way of teaching them the basics of saving – perhaps as a reward for doing chores
* Use online games, quizzes and videos to help teach young people about the basics of finance.
