History is in the making if the apex court of the land, will go ahead to review its earlier delivered ruling on the matter between former Imo State Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha and the currently governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma.
This stemmed from the acceptance and official admittance of the appeal of brought by Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha for the review of the 14 January, 2020 Judgement which relied on a set election results originally rejected and never endorsed by INEC due to contradicting figures but tendered by Police to recomputed Senator Uzodinma’s result that earned him the winning.
The apex court will also weigh the rationale in admitting uncertified exhibit from somebody that was never the producer and has no business in possessing such ab-initio. The said results had eariler been rejected from the tribunal to the Appeal Court.
Recall that the said judgment was used to remove him as Imo state governor.
Whereas the request for review was submitted to the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court in Abuja after a final decision to apprach the apex court was reached at the 88th National Executive Committee meeting of the PDP Monday last week, legal observers following the rare development are upbeat that the 17 members of the entire apex court shall commence the review of the judgment based on its merits.
Already, global civil society watchers’ and several International Electoral Observers, from the USA, Europe and the United Kingdom have all pledged to attend all the proceedings to monitor and evaluate the dispensation of democratic Justice in Nigeria.
In an interview, Chief Cyril Aririguzo, opined that “It will be interesting to note that the commencement of the review will usher in another opportunity for Nigerians and the International community to observe how the Supreme Court will handle the errors issues honourably. It is our hope to see the Supreme Court live up to the expectation of doing the right things not minding whose ox is gored.”
However, efforts to authenticate receipt of the appeal by the Supreme Court failed at press time.
