The Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), has bagged international honours for promoting telecom advocacy at the African Information Technology and Telecoms Awards (AITTA) at Movenpick Hotels, Accra, Ghana.
AITTA hailed ATCON, the umbrella body for leading telecoms companies in Nigeria for advocacy activities in creating an enabling environment, reducing incidence of multiple taxation in the Nigerian telecom and ICT sector and increasing foreign direct investment from the sector.
Responding, President of ATCON, Engr Olusola Teniola, said “ATCON would continue to channel its energy towards the wellbeing of its members because if ATCON refuses to carry out its mandate of protecting the member companies of the Association it may lead to closure of business and job losses in the telecom industry”.
He further called on telecoms umbrella bodies from other countries present at the award ceremony to borrow a leaf from ATCON by driving an Association that is committed to the development of telecom and ICT sector in their respective countries.
