National electricity grid collapses for the eighth time this year, TCN blames Discos
Blame game has intensified between the government-owned Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the body of electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) over the endless wait for the regime of seamless stability in power.
Weekend, Business Hilights gathered that the Nigerian national power grid collapsed again for the eighth time after the seventh collapse happened less than one week to the exit of the former Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
Experts describe collapse of the national power grid as shutdown of the central power control and national grid that feed distribution companies meaning that whenever there is collapse, consumers across the country are thrown into blackout for some hours.
As usual, TCN blamed the latest collapse on the inability of Discos to effectively evacuate produced power due to dearth of their installed facilities.
Statistics obtained from the Nigeria Electricity System Operator, an arm of the TCN, showed that grid collapse this year dates back to January which has the highest number of four times followed one each in February, April and May.
Checks on Monday afternoon showed restoration of of the collapsed national grid but electricity transmission remained epileptic throughout the day as many states are yet to be hooked on.
