Promoters of ‘MMM’ hiding under trapped victims to query NASS on ban
Indications have emerged that the observed strong condemnation currently trailing the directive by the House of Representatives mandating the EFCC and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to immediately go after the promoters Mavrodi Mondial Moneybox, otherwise known as ‘MMM’ in Nigeria is a ploy by the dealers to fight for survival, Business Hilights can authoritatively report.
It would be recalled that barely less than one week after the a related bubble burst in Enugu State where over 40 people were defrauded to the tune of over N4billion, the House of Reps has directed the EFCC, security agencies and the CBN to take urgent steps to halt MMM Nigeria before many Nigerians would become victims of the scam.
The lower chamber had on Wednesday, November 9, opposed the MMM Nigeria which has gained popularity among poor and middle class Nigerians in the wake of the current economic recession in the country.
The MMM promises 30 per cent return on investment for any money put into the scheme within 30 days.
Whereas Business Hilights investigations showed that the investment scheme has a Russian origin and involves directing clients to make money available for an anonymous person with a promise of 30 per cent return within one month, further findings indicated that many of the people opposing the ban had already posted huge amount, waiting to gain from the deal.
It was also discovered that those who had put in their money accosted the promoters who are now encouraging them to fight back at the lawmakers so that their investments cannot be trapped.
The key argument of the victims and promoters is ‘what is the business of lawmakers in people’s private business, while other serious issues of national importance are unattended to?’
For now, they are faceless considering the ongoing manhunt for them nationwide.
Otherwise, the hiding promoters are now using those who had put I n their money to see how they can frustrate the legislatures order in order to allow for the continuity of the illicit business.
Our correspondents, however noticed that arrests have not been made, other than the trending case in Enugu now as the MMM promoters in cities like Lagos and Abuja and Port Harcourt had gone under.
One of the ‘investors’ who read Business Hilights online story on the matter two days ago, called our Editor on phone, asking “How some of them can get their money considering the development”.
The victim who pleaded anonymity told our Editor that “If serious efforts are not made, and in time, the promoters will hide under the ban to bolt away with their trapped funds which he said will be over N110 billion.
The source said “I suspect that all the money we have been paying with the hope of getting 30 per cent ‘return on investment’ seem to be wired direct to Russia because we were told that the destination of the investment is Russia”.
