There are growing divergent views capable of degenerating to something else if a soft landing for both parties is not provided as soon as possible.

Only last week, members of the federal House of Representatives expressed worry and demonstrated stiff opposition to the planned concession of the nation’s railways.

But investigations are rife that despite concerns by workers of the Nigerian Railway Corporation and the lawmakers over plans to concession the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), the Federal Government is poised to go ahead.

Federal government argument is based on the fact handing over the facility to a genuine investor would guarantee enormous benefits, as it stressed that there was no going back on the plans to concession the corporation.

Coming from the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, stakeholders’ are worried that the deal may not be in the interest of the nation.

Amaechi, while playing host to the President-General, Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporation and Government Owned Companies, Mr. Mohammed Yunusa, who led other union leaders and members to the Federal Ministry of Transportation in Abuja reinstated government’s resolve to go ahead with the sale.

In a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Public Relations, Mrs. Yetunde Sonaike on Wednesday, Amaechi appealed to the union and other similar groups in the country to give peace a chance and allow Nigeria to progress in the right direction.

His further reasoning is hinged on the fact that “the transportation ministry should not be burdened with unprofitable agitations and actions capable of denying Nigerians the long awaited benefits of Nigerian Railway Corporation’s concession”.
