ABSU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ndukwe Okeudo
Leading State University in Nigeria, the Abia State University (ABSU) has matriculated a total of 7,523 fresh students for the 2025/2026 academic session during its 44th Matriculation Ceremony held at the University Pavilion.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Governor of Abia State and Visitor to the University, Alex Otti, reassured of the commitment of the State Government to transform the institution into one of the best universities in Nigeria.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Uche Eme Uche, commended the Governing Council, Management, and staff of the University for their dedication to shaping students into responsible members of society. He also appreciated parents and guardians for their sacrifices in ensuring their children acquire tertiary education.
Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Agwu U. Agwu, who was represented by Governing Council member Stanley Okonta, assured that the Council will continue to support and implement the policies of the Governor aimed at repositioning the University to compete favourably at national and global levels.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Ndukwe Okeudo, stated that the University has recorded an unprecedented increase in admission following the massive support from the State Government. He reiterated Management’s determination to provide a conducive learning environment and quality education that will positively shape the future of the students.
Professor Okeudo reminded the matriculating students that the University maintains zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, violence, and other social vices, and congratulated them on their successful admission.
Some of the matriculating students who spoke with journalists expressed gratitude to the University Management and their parents for the opportunity to pursue higher education, promising to remain focused and work hard to achieve their academic goals.
The highlight of the ceremony, which featured goodwill messages from representatives of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Nigerian Education Loan Fund, was the administration of the Matriculation Oath on the students by the University Registrar, Acho Elendu.
The event was attended by principal officers of the University, members of the State House of Assembly, top government officials, Senate members, parents, and guardians from across the state and beyond.
