It was massive celebration and merriments as the largest motor parts market in Africa, the Auto Spare Parts & Machinery dealers Association (ASPMDA) on Tuesday, marked its 26th of relocating from Idumota in Lagos Island to its permanent site at the Lagos International Trade Fair complex on Badagry Expressway.
Addressing ASPMDA members and invited guests, President of the association, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe took out time to chronicle his achievements sine he was elected and sworn in three years ago.
He said whereas he thanked God for the feats so far recorded by his administration, “We are still working hard to raise standards in reforms that will enthrone ease of doing business in ASPMDA.
“My administration have taken notes of critical issues of reforms as highlighted by the chairman of the event, Hon. Pastor Adeniyi Olusesan, especially on the observed recklessness of tricycle truck drivers and truck pushers who run away with peoples good and disappear to other markets in the complex.
Emechebe also noted that “The issue of making Umu Boi (settled apprentices’) to get shops in the ASPMDA extension is must under his administration as no old member will displace them because we believe that the young shall grow.
“On loading/parking Bay, my government is doing everything possible to make sure that the open spaces are left and used for what the founding fathers earmarked them for at all times.
“We have won the war on fake engine oil with DSS last year and we are going to fight anyone indulging in adulteration in ASPMDA with the culprits losing their shops or plazas.
“On the 2026 ASPMDA elections, I want to assure everyone that it must be free, fair and credible which has been the standard of ASPMDA in every election.
In an interview with Business Hilights, the chairman of the ASPMDA 26th anniversary organizing committee, Hon. Mayor Victor Onyishi said “Am very grateful to God for a successful event planning and I thank all my members who worked day and night for the hitch free anniversary.”
In his goodwill message, the President who build ASPMDA in Trade Fair complex and coordinated the exodus from Idumota to the complex, Chief Charles Ages Okeke angrily observed that there are so many members that are parading themselves as founding fathers who are not based on his foundation knowledge. He said “Very soon, he will drive a reform that will wipe out fake founding fathers and replace them with the real founders who pulled their monies and built this complex for all of to enjoy today. Am not happy that many of them are no longer remembered both living and dead. He congratulated the current administration for their reforms and infrastructural achievements in ASPMDA and urged them to continue doing well.
Earlier in his opening speech, the chairman of the ASPMDA 26th anniversary and a member of the founding father, Hon. Pastor Adeniyi Olusesan while congratulating the current administration for their achievements, called for action against the menace of truck pushers, disappearing of parking/loading bays, end to fake products on sale and delivery of new shops to settled Umu Boi in ASPMDA.

- Infrastructure Development and Modernization
Our administration has undertaken a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the overall infrastructure and services within ASPMDA. Key highlights include:
1.1. Collaboration with MTN and Airtel to enhance mobile network coverage, mitigating the issue of poor network reception
1.2. Initiation of ASPMDA property document computerization for efficient record-keeping
1.3. Interlocking of areas like B16, C10, C11, C14 axis, and others to promote a more organized environment
1.4. Installation of CCTV cameras, solar lights, and workie-talkies to bolster security
1.5. Replacement of overhead tank stands from wood to iron and drilling of additional boreholes
- Security and Safety Enhancement
We have strengthened security measures through:
2.1. Engagement of a reputable security company, resulting in a significant reduction in theft and crime
2.2. Equipping security personnel with necessary tools and technology
2.3. Refurbishment of ASPMDA fire trucks and payment of federal fire service personnel
2.4. Collaboration with DSS to combat adulterated engine oil and fake products
- Environmental Management and Sustainability
Our commitment to environmental sustainability is reflected in:
- Daily trash evacuation with LAWMA
- Regular clearing of canals and gutters to prevent flooding
- Maintenance of ASPMDA dumping sites
- Governance and Administration
Our administration has demonstrated:
- Transparency and accountability in governance
- Introduction of Monday morning Prayer and Love Feast events
- 100% increment in security personnel salaries
- Settlement of inherited debts (NEPA bills, salaries, Trade Fair management board)
- Credible administration and dispute resolution
- Economic Development and Growth
We have fostered economic growth through:
- Extension of ASPMDA facilities to members
- Attraction of big investors (banks, international companies)
- Partnerships with banks for soft loans and overdrafts
- Synergy with patrons (e.g., Mr. Peter Obi’s intervention in property demolition)
- Welfare and Social Responsibility
We have prioritized member welfare through:
- Attendance at members’ events and support for pressing needs
- Day of remembrance for ASPMDA fallen heroes
- Fair allocation of ASPMDA new site shops and plazas
- Cautioning property agents against overpricing
- Electricity and Power Infrastructure
We have improved electricity infrastructure, including:
- Replacement of armored cables and feeders
- Servicing of transformers and purchase of transformer oil
- Installation of a 45kVA generator for ASPMDA properties
- Other Achievements
- Effective dispute resolution and maintenance of peace and unity
- Partnerships with government agencies and international companies
- Equipping of traffic department for efficient traffic management
- Mitigation of inherited court cases
In conclusion, 2025 has been a year of significant progress for ASPMDA. We are grateful for the support of our members, partners, and stakeholders, and look forward to continued growth and prosperity.
