Following the full takeover of the national Labour Party structure by the Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti supported faction, the leadership of the party in Imo State weekend, hosted a strategic enlarged State Executive meeting in Orlu, the headquarters of Orlu LGA of Imo State.
In his address of welcome, Amb. Chief Odinaka CA Emejuru, the Imo State Deputy/Orlu Zonal Chairman, Labour Party of Nigeria, said “It is with great pride and a deep sense of honour that I welcome you all to this period enlarged Orlu Zonal meeting of our great party. I thank every leader who has made time to be present with us today.
“Let me begin by appreciating our national leader, H.E. Gov. Alex Otti, the entire membership, our National Working Committee that is ably led by the most articulate woman of our today’s political space and the charismatic Hon. Mazi Excel Ochiama and his SWC who are the first line of defence in our democratic struggle. It is from your leadership that our grassroots structures are nurtured and sustained. Your resilience, especially during the trying times is commendable. We recognise the burdens you carry and salute your unwavering commitment to the party. Together, we shall remain comrades in the trenches of democracy.
“I also extend my heartfelt appreciation to our leaders on whose shoulders lies the burden to fund and sustain labour party until Juicy political offices are worn.
“To our LGA Chairmen, our pride and our strength, you are the crown on our head. You remain the backbone of this party, and without your leadership and sacrifices, we would be left exposed. We are indeed fortunate to have you to lead the struggles.
“To our Ward Chairmen, you are the workhorse, the engine room and the very last hope for our survival. Haven risen from the grassroots, accepting that the past has not truly acknowledged your contributions, I stand here to assure all Ward Chairmen that during my time as the Orlu Zonal Chairman of Labour Party and even beyond, every result oriented Ward chairman will be better appreciated.
“Permit me to acknowledge and thank all stakeholders of our party who have remained steadfast in the defining times.
“Dear comrades, as you are aware, the Zonal Executive Council is one of the most important organs of our party and I deeply appreciate your presence and the seriousness with which you’ve approached this meeting. As we deliberate on the next steps for our great party, I urge us all to be of one mind, to speak truthfully, to make wise recommendations without prejudice, and to treat this meeting with the respect it deserves by listening to other members even if their contributions may be vexing to you.
“I have no charge beyond this; that we deliberate sincerely and make decisions that serve the interest of the Labour Party with Imo-West Senatorial District at heart.
Elated Chief Amb. Emejuru averred that “Our great Party is winning souls and on the recent coalition that was led by H.E. Peter Gregory Obi, in whom we are well pleased, a coalition that adopted the ADC strictly for 2027 presidential election, I am pleased to report that this political experiment is nothing to lose sleep over. They say, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Some persons have recently learned this truth and to the many more whose explanation informs that they never left LP but merely attended the meeting of the other, we will accept their confessions without prejudice. Let us continue to build the Labour Party of Nigeria that has become the one and only ideologically driven political party in Nigeria. Others are just there with bogus claims.
