As part of new drives to enhance efficiency and taxpayer convenience, the Imo State Government, through the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), has launched an integrated, on-site payment service for all land property taxes. This initiative, is designed to eliminate delays in the land perfection process by providing direct, walk-in assistance to taxpayers.
The state is currently integrating its Land Information System (LIS) with the Revenue Management System (RMS), a technological upgrade aimed at streamlining service delivery. While this integration is pending, the IIRS has deployed designated officers to the LIS Centre to guide taxpayers through a simplified three-step payment process for services like Certificates of Occupancy and Ground Rent.
A Simplified Three-Step Payment Process
To secure land titles without delay, taxpayers are advised to follow a clear procedure. First, they must visit the LIS Centre at the state secretariat to obtain an official assessment bill detailing all applicable charges. Next, they should present this bill to the IIRS Revenue Officers stationed on-site. These officers will facilitate immediate processing and payment initiation, either directly or via the IIRS Self-Service Portal.
Finally, payments can be completed securely through multiple channels. Taxpayers can opt for an instant bank transfer or web payment via the portal, or they can visit any commercial bank using a system-generated Payment Reference Number. This multi-channel approach ensures flexibility and convenience for all residents.
Commitment to Transparency and Modernization
The new system underscores the state government’s commitment to transparency and modern governance. A key feature is that all payments are routed directly into the State Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), ensuring secure and centralized revenue collection. Upon successful payment, taxpayers receive instant digital confirmation via a receipt, serving as official proof and eliminating uncertainty.
The IIRS has emphasized that the assessed amounts are final, with no hidden charges, guaranteeing a transparent and trustworthy process. This initiative, under the banner of “Building a Greater State through Transparent Revenue,” aims to foster greater public compliance and confidence by making essential land services more accessible and efficient for the people of Imo State.
