Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has announced immediate shutdown and total closure of Onitsha main market and all adjoining markets in Onitsha for observing Sit-at-Home after government has stopped it.
Addressing very few traders who took the risk of coming to the market and opening their shops today, Monday, January 26, the annoyed Governor said “This nonsense must stop today. Igbos say when abnormality stays beyond one year, it becomes a culture. Sit at home cannot and will never be a culture in Anambra State.
“I just drove from Awka this morning to this main market. Businesses are going on everywhere and nothing is happening here. Enough is enough and this nonsense must stop today.
“From today, any market or business that closes on Monday, shall remain closed for the next seven days beginning from today at this Onitsha main market.
“This main market shall remain closed for the next seven days and if we come here next week Monday and it remained closed, it will remain closed for the next seven days. If it continues, I wouldn’t mind taking bulldozer and leveling Onitsha main market.
“Am ready to close this market for the next one year. This is now economic sabotage and we as a government can no longer tolerate that.
Business Hilights Onitsha Bureau Chief reports that there was massive jubilation across every street in Onitsha, strongly indicating that the sit at home has come to stop effective next week Monday when the market can only reopen having been pronounced closed for the next seven day by the seating governor of the state, Prof. Soludo.
Development analysts have argued that South East region has been losing average of N200bn every Monday for not opening their businesses and remaining indoors, but with this executive order, things are likely to change for the better as the sit at home will automatically end next week Monday when every businesses is expected to open with full force across Anambra State and Onitsha main market in particular.
