The Vice-Chancellor Abia State University Uturu (ABSU), Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, last week Thursday, hosted a delegation from the Zenith Environmental & Social Protection Network (ZESPRONET), during a courtesy visit to his office.
Speaking during the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor commended ZESPRONET for its numerous contributions and sustained commitment to the University’s development, particularly in fostering the spirit of alumni partnership while adding value to their alma-mater.
He highlighted some of the University’s pressing needs, including the re-grassing of the University environment to enhance cleanliness and restore the aesthetic appeal for which ABSU is known.
Professor Okeudo also appreciated the Governor and Visitor to the University, Dr. Alex C. Otti, OFR, for his continued efforts and innovative vision towards repositioning ABSU as a world-class citadel of learning. He expressed confidence that with the collective support of ZESPRONET and other alumni branches, the University would achieve even greater milestones.
Earlier in his remarks, the leader of the delegation and National Chairman of ZESPRONET, Barr. George E. Ukaegbu, SAN – NP, explained that their visit was aimed at formally introducing the body to the Vice-Chancellor and informing him of their ongoing contributions to the University community.
Mr. Ukaegbu listed some of ZESPRONET’s landmark achievements, including the regular delivery of updated academic journals to the University, collaboration with the North America-based Alumni project, “Operation Light-Up ABSU,” the construction of an ₦80 million Postgraduate Hostel, and the ongoing re-grassing and beautification of the University environment, among others.
He expressed pride in the University’s consistent reputation as a reference point among sister institutions nationwide and assured the Vice-Chancellor of ZESPRONET’s continued readiness to support and partner with the administration in realizing its developmental goals.
The National Chairman also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and his Management team for the warm reception accorded to them and used the opportunity to formally announce the upcoming Bi-Annual General Meeting of ZESPRONET scheduled for 2026 and invited the Vice-Chancellor as their Patron.
In a vote of thanks, the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, thanked the ZESPRONET team for their visit and commended their numerous projects across the University. He added that the present administration, under the leadership of a God-fearing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ndukwe J. Okeudo, deeply values the partnership of alumni groups like ZESPRONET and looks forward to strengthening ties for the overall progress of the University.
Also present at the meeting were the Bursar, Mr. Mark Amaefule, Acting University Librarian, Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Ibeneme, University PRO, Mr. Chijioke Nwogu, and other members of the team, including Barr. Emenike Okeudo – DNP, Nnamdi Obidiegwu – DOS, Sir Nnamdi Osuagwu – Trustee, Sir Onyi Wamah – Trustee.
