Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State
Latest urban-rural feeder roads approvals’ by the Imo State Government to drive connectivity, aid farmers harvest haulage and growth have again skipped the completely collapsed Ezerioha Road linking several agrarian communities in Orlu-North LCDA to the urban centre.
Business Hilights recalls that the last time Ezerioha Road in Orlu LGA was reconstructed dates far back to the administration of former Governor Ohakim and latest checks show that the road is no more mororable. Communities served by the road include parts of Amaifeke, Elvis Agukwe’s Okwuabala-Ihioma, Ogberuru, Obibi, Amanator-Ihitweowerri and Ihiteowerri communities.
Only recently, the leadership of Ihiteowerri Ward Stakeholders Forum (IWSF) comprising of the four communities in the ward including Amanato-Ihiteowerri, Ihiteowerri, Isi-Ihiteowerri and Obinugwu paid a courtesy visit to the House of Representative member for Orlu/Orsu/Oru East Federal Constituency, Hon. Canice Nwachukwu and pleaded with him to meet Governor Hope Uzodinma for intervention in the reconstruction of the Ezerioha Road.
Earlier on Thursday’s Imo State Executive Council, chaired by Governor Hope Uzodimma, Council approved the reconstruction and rehabilitation of several strategic roads to enhance transportation, support commerce, and promote economic development.
In Okigwe Zone of Imo State, key road projects include:
Umuezeala – Umuode – Ekeuodu – Umukabia Road (Ehime Mbano, 3.6 km): Connects rural communities and facilitates movement of agricultural produce.
In Owerri Zone, key road approved include:
Human Race Ezeakiri – Naze No. 6 Aba Road, Owerri: Strengthens connectivity between Owerri and suburbs.
Zoo Old Nekede – Claretian University Road, Nekede Owerri (4 km): Modernizes a busy urban corridor, benefiting students, commuters, and reducing traffic congestion.
In Orlu Zone, key road approved include:
Eziachi – Umuzike – Umudioka – Amucha Road with Spur (Nkwerre, 5 km): Links multiple farming villages and improves rural access.
Umuaka – Umundugba – Isunjaba – Eziama Obire – Mgbaboano Road: Connects several communities, bridging gaps in the road network.
Aside the above new road projects, many Imo citizens residing in other parts of the state where there had been ongoing urban-rural road projects say work is not either going on or is very slow and may not even be delivered before the end of the year.
