Japan has introduced the Yoroi Reactor—a nuclear power unit roughly the size of a shipping container—capable of providing clean energy to entire communities. Each reactor generates 1 megawatt of electricity using molten salt and low-enriched uranium. Designed with safety in mind, it operates at low pressure, is meltdown-proof, and automatically shuts down in the event of a power failure.
The sealed reactors are buried underground, require no on-site personnel, and can run continuously for 10 years without refueling. Two units are already operational in remote towns in Hokkaido, replacing diesel generators as a more sustainable and resilient alternative. Japan aims to deploy 50 additional reactors by 2030, marking a significant move toward zero-emission, decentralized energy infrastructure.
