ADC combination of Peter Obi as Presidential candidate and El-Rufai as VP may be the game changer for Nigeria come 2027.
Many strategic considerations were under play before the selection and adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as the party for the coalition to unseat the ruling party come 2027.
The most silent but major factors include but not limited to issues of the name rhyme, ballot identity error and closeness to APC in the minds of poorly educated voters who are usually in majority when voting during elections are under review.
On ballot paper, ADC will come first before APC and there are very strong indication that APC enthusiasts’ may in the process of rushing to vote for APC thump-print ADC instead without observing it.
However, it is believed that majority of those that will vote for intentionally for ADC are more educated and will just vote ADC without any error of identity after all like those for APC.
Business Hilights recalls that the founding National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has revealed that party leaders voluntarily stepped down to allow former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola to assume leadership and steer the party and Nigeria towards a new political direction.
Nwosu made the announcement on Wednesday at the unveiling of the ADC as the official platform for the newly formed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. The event took place at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.
Mark and Aregbesola have been named the interim National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC-backed coalition, respectively.
“We all decided to resign so that Mark, Aregbesola and others can lead us to the Villa,” Nwosu said. “We also approved Mark as National Chairman and Aregbesola as the National Secretary of the party. When you look at the two of them and their commitment to this country, you’ll see that this is a new beginning. They will reposition the party and Nigeria.”
There are very strong indications that many governors both in PDP, APC and others may soon decamp to ADC ahead of 2027 even as several Assembly members both at federal and states have already lined up waiting for the emerging stability of the new party.
Another factor that will win several Nigerians into joining ADC is the recent submission of a one-term bid by Mr. Peter Obi to the ADC for consideration.
