One of the most visible markers of Dr. Otti’s administration is the renewed focus on infrastructure development. In his two years, critical road networks long abandoned have witnessed rehabilitation and reconstruction. Major roads in
Aba, Umuahia, and other urban centres have been transformed, easing movement and boosting local economies. The rehabilitation of the Port
Harcourt Road in Aba, for instance, has rekindled commercial activities in the city known as the “Japan of Africa.”
Beyond roads, the state’s urban renewal agenda has included the modernization of markets, improved drainage systems, and beautification projects, aiming to restore the aesthetic and functional appeal of Abia’s cities. These efforts reflect a leadership that understands infrastructure as the bedrock of economic revival.

- Ossah, Ngwa, and Aba-Owerri Roads: These critical arteries have either been rehabilitated or are undergoing reconstruction. For the first time in years, residents and businesses are experiencing uninterrupted mobility during the rainy season.
- Drainage and Flood Control: Recognizing that poor drainage was a root cause of road failure in Aba, the Otti administration has embedded comprehensive drainage systems in all ongoing road projects. This has significantly reduced flash flooding in previously submerged areas like Uratta, Obohia, and Ohanku roads.
Umuahia: A New Face for the Capital

Airport project, recently announced and already in preliminary stages of planning and land acquisition, represents a transformative shift in infrastructure thinking.
Strategic Importance:
- Economic Gateway: The airport is expected to serve as a major hub for business travel, cargo movement, and logistics, especially for Aba’s vast network of traders and manufacturers who rely on regional and international connectivity.
- Job Creation: Thousands of direct and indirect jobs are anticipated from the airport’s construction, operations, and auxiliary services such as hospitality, retail, and logistics.
- Tourism and Investment: With an airport, Abia becomes more accessible to investors, tourists, and diaspora professionals—aligning with Otti’s vision of repositioning the state as a regional powerhouse.
Current Status:
The government has identified and secured a large parcel of land in a strategically central location, balancing access for both Aba and Umuahia.
Feasibility studies are ongoing, with plans to partner with the Federal Airports
Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and private investors under a public-private partnership (PPP) model to ensure long-term viability and professional operation.
Modern Bus Terminals in Aba and Umuahia: Order from Chaos
For decades, transport terminals in Aba and Umuahia were characterized by congestion, poor hygiene, insecurity, and the dominance of informal operators.
Dr. Otti’s administration took decisive steps to replace chaotic motor parks with ultra-modern bus terminals designed for efficiency, safety, and urban aesthetics.
Expected Features of the New Terminals:
- Integrated Transport Facilities: Each terminal includes arrival and departure bays, ticketing counters, lounge areas, eateries, and public conveniences—designed to meet modern standards.
- Digital Infrastructure: Implementation of digital ticketing and real-time transport information systems is part of the terminal operations, reducing touting and enabling better regulation.

- In Umuahia, the terminal is integrated into the city’s new urban transport plan, decongesting the old Isi Gate axis and restoring dignity to the capital’s transport landscape.
These terminals will also create hundreds of jobs, formalized the oncedisorganised sector, and improve the commuting experience for thousands of Abians daily.
