The National President of Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations (COMTUA), Comrade Adeyinka Aroyewun has called for renewed efforts to inculcate road safety habit amongst members in order limit rising cases of road crashes involving members in Nigeria.
In a memo to members and made available to Business Hilights, he wrote as follows:
“It is with heavy hearts that we, the Council of Maritime Transport Unions and Associations, express our deepest grief over the recent accidents involving container carrier trucks in Agege, around Lagos and other parts of the country. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this difficult time.
“As an association dedicated to promoting safe and efficient maritime transport, we are deeply saddened by these tragic incidents. We understand the importance of prioritizing safety in our operations and we urge all operators, practitioners, and members of our association, as well as others in the industry, to take this matter seriously.
“Safety should always be the top priority in any transport operation. We must ensure that all necessary precautions are taken to prevent such accidents from happening again in the future. This includes regular maintenance of vehicles, proper training for drivers, and adherence to all safety regulations.
“We encourage all members of our association and other groups in the industry to come together and work towards creating a safer environment for everyone involved in maritime transport. By working together and sharing best practices, we can prevent future tragedies and ensure the well-being of all those in our industry.
“Once again, we extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and pledge to do everything in our power to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future,” COMTUA National President added.
