
In continuation of his massive strategic tax enlightenment programme in the state, the Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS), Mr. Justice R. Okoye, (FCA) has emphasized the critical role tax policy reforms play in national development and fiscal sustainability.
In a recent webinar organised by the Chartered Institute of Bankers Nigeria, Imo State chapter, Mr. Okoye noted that while such reforms may present initial challenges for businesses, including compliance, and operational shifts, the long-term benefits are far-reaching.
He stated that Tax reforms are not just about revenue generation but are strategic tools for improving public infrastructure, enhancing transparency, and strengthening investor confidence.
He highlighted that sustainable development hinges on effective collaboration between the Government and the private sector, stating the need for policy makers and business leaders to work together in order to ensure that reforms are inclusive, practical, and align with economic realities.
The IIRS Chairman reiterated, the IIRS’s commitment to implementing business-friendly tax policies that promote economic growth while ensuring equity and accountability in the tax system.
As Imo State continues to align its tax structure with national and global best practices, stakeholders are encouraged to engage actively in the reform process to maximize shared benefits.
