The leadership of COMTUA, a leading maritime truckers association has officially brought the attention of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to the illegal activities of a group led by One Hammed Kutere and one man known as Lanky, who have been operating illegal roadblocks, extorting money, harassing, and intimidating maritime transport operators within Ikorodu, Lagos State.
A letter written to the Police Commissioner and copied to the Governor, AIG Zone 2, and SA to Governor on Transportation sighted by Business Hilights which was signed by Joseph Adekayaja for COMTUA, said “Despite a directive from the Lagos State government, through a communique sign by the special Adviser to Mr Governor on Transportation, Hon Sola Giwa, Nigerian Ports Authority and a group of truckers banning the collection of money from trucks on the roads within Lagos State, this group is still operating within Ikorodu garage roundabout, Sabo roundabout, and on both Sagamu and Ijebu Ode roads.
“Their activities have caused accidents and in some cases, even death in addition to extort, harassment, intimidation and causing injuries to truckers and causing economic sabotage.
“These illegal roadblocks have not only disrupted the flow of traffic but have also put the safety of motorists and pedestrians at risk. The extortion and harassment of maritime transport operators have also had a negative impact on businesses operating within the area.
“I urge you to take immediate action to put an end to these illegal activities and bring the perpetrators to justice. It is important to ensure the safety and security of all residents and businesses within Lagos State.
