The Executive Chairman of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) held a strategic meeting with the Honorable Commissioner for Livestock Development and Management on April 15, 2025. During the meeting, the executive Chairman, Mr Justice Okoye welcomed the Commissioner and his team, while the honourable Commissioner Dr. Tony Mgbeahurike expressed gratitude for the Chairman’s commitment to revenue generation and innovation.
The Commissioner discussed his reformation plans, aligning with the Governor’s 3R vision, which includes partnering with IIRS to leverage their expertise in revenue collection. He highlighted revenue generation points under his purview, including :
-Abattoirs: With over 20 abattoirs in the state, the Commissioner emphasized the need for proper regulation and revenue collection.
-Control Posts: The Commissioner explained the importance of cross-animal transboundary checks, ensuring animal health and preventing public health risks.
The Commissioner stressed that effective revenue generation requires sufficient human capital, which is currently a challenge for his ministry, hence the need for collaboration with IIRS.
In response, the Executive Chairman Introduced the newly deployed revenue management system and encouraged the ministry to integrate with it. He Emphasized the significance of the Control Post in preserving public health. He Suggested a follow-up meeting to discuss workability and potential areas for improvement.
The meeting concluded with the Commissioner being redirected to meet with the Commissioner of Commerce for further discussions.
