As construction activities peak at Lagos choicest waterfront, Eko Atlantic City (EAC), more blue chip firms are lining up to craft their nest at the new real estate heaven.
The latest to indicate relocation interest is Nigeria’s leading telecom giant, MTN Nigeria, the country’s largest telecoms operator.
Speaking in his remarks at the recent launch of MyLagosApp; a digital platform designed to streamline access to essential city services for residents, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola said the company is concluding plans to establish its new headquarters in Eko Atlantic.
Accordingly, the company will become the first telecom company to build in the rapidly expanding coastal but totally digital city.
Business Hilights recalls that the recovery of EAC stemmed from the ocean frontline abatement plan of Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu when he was the Lagos State Governor between 1999 and 2007.
Analysts say the exodus plan places the telco alongside major corporations such as First Bank, Shell, US Embassy and TVC, which are among a growing list of companies relocating to the 10-square-kilometer development.
Toriola averred that “As part of this commitment, we have acquired a piece of land in Eko Atlantic City, and we will commence construction once we have gotten the equipment.”
The CEO did not reveal a timeline or financial implications.
Eko Atlantic City, a visionary urban development built on 10 million square meters of reclaimed land off the Lagos coast, is designed as a self-sustaining metropolis.
