Whereas road users at the massive Lagos International Trade fair complex await the resumption of reconstruction works on the Ring-Road this year as assured by the House of Representatives Committee on Commerce during their tour of the complex last year, there is need for early repairs of failing portions to avoid complete failure.
Business Hilights (BH) recalls that mid last year, the House Committee member led by its chairman, Hon. Munir Ahmed assured stakeholders during their tour that the cost of reconstructing the complex road will be included in the 2025 national budget, saying changing the face of the road, will among other things, raise ease of doing business in the complex.
However, findings during a tour of the ring-road on Wednesday by our Correspondent, showed an expanding failure of a sensitive portion of the only good part of the ring-road. The failed or failing portion is located exactly in front of APT main gate and near UASPDA gate, through a feeder road coming from Mechanic Village in the complex.
Enquires around the failed inter-locking road showed that the failure started few months before the end of last year but was unfortunately ignored by the Trade Fair Management either by commission or omission. Today, the bad road is seriously eating deep into the main road, thus causing massive traffic jam on a daily basis.
Aside the clearly noticeable failing inter-locking, there are several bad spots that are in need of palliatives. Also, some of the ring-road drainage systems (gutters) are fully blocked during the tour of the road by BH meaning that flooding is imminent in the complex if not hurriedly cleared.
Accordingly, the road users called on the management to immediately come to the rescue and repair the failing inter-locking to avoid total destruction in no distant time.
Efforts to reach out to the ED/CEO, Barr. Vera Ndanusa or the DAPM, Mr. Dajilak failed at press time.
Also, efforts to reach the chairman of Stakeholders, Chief Eric Ilechukwu, who doubles as APT President, also could not yield any positive result yesterday.
