S’West Maintains Grip of Power as Tinubu Appoints Ogunjimi as AGF

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who promised to continue from where former President Muhammadu Buhari stopped has continued to jam-park the nation’s economic team with South Westerners considering the latest appointment of Mr. Shamsedeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the new Accountant General of the Federation (AGF).

The appointment trajectory started last year when Ogunjimi was tapped by the Presidency as acting AGF, but his appointment in acting capacity was resulted by his predecessor, Dr Mrs Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein, acting in concert with the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack

His appointment, according to presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, was approved today, Tuesday, March 4, 2025.

The appointment, he said, “takes effect from 7th March 2025, the same day the incumbent Oluwatoyin Madehin will retire.”

On jam-parking the nation’s economic team, a public affairs commentator, Dr Ugo Egbujo recently posted a dream he had on his Facebook wall saying as follows (unedited);

“I had a dream yesterday

In the dream

Tinubu called a meeting of his economic kitchen cabinet

He was the first to arrive

He wore a hat on which was written Oil Minister

You know how dreams are

He stood at the door welcoming his team

Yemi Cardoso CBN Gov came first

Then Wale Edun, Finance Minister arrived

Then Zach Adedeji, the FIRS chairman arrived

Then Gboyega Oyetola, Blue Economy minister came

Then Jumoke Oduwole Minister of Trade and Industry arrived

Next was Bosun Tijani, Minister of Digital economy

Then Bashir Adeniyi, the boss of Customs

Then Gbajabiamila arrived, apologizing

As the meeting was about starting Tinubu said he didn’t want to rebuild economy without fighting corruption

So he whispered to Gbajabiamila

Soon Egbetokun, the IGP arrived

Then Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman arrived

Then Adeola Ajayi, the DSS DG arrived

Then Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney General arrived

Gbajabiamia asked Tinubu if he could invite Kudirat kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice

Tinubu shook his head, saying he didn’t want it to look too Yoruba

“Ogunjimi graduated from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. He also obtained a Master’s in Accounting and Finance from the University of Lagos.

“He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

“President Tinubu congratulates Ogunjimi on his appointment and urges him to discharge his duties in the service of Nigeria with integrity, professionalism, and dedication to Nigeria’s service.”
