Nigeria Customs boss, CG Wale B Adeniyi (MFR)
Fresh detail of the presentations of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) CG’s presentation at the ongoing public hearing on new tax Bills at the National Assembly indicating that synergy between Customs and Tax authorities remains the best option to deepen revenue collection for the government.
The Customs boss, Bashir Adeniyi (MFR) in his submission raised some jurisdictional conflicting issues on the proposed Nigeria Revenue Service Bill, observing that “The Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill 2024 Section 1 provides a legal framework for the administration of taxes and revenue under any law where Section 42 defines tax. So, this particular section subsumes everything that is provided under Section 3 and 4 of the NCS Act, 2023.
According to him, “We should encourage collaboration, and integration of operations between Customs and the tax authorities, not abolish Customs or repeal a law because we want to make another law.”
