COMTUA, NAMTOP Members Decry Extortions, Petitions Gov., Police, Ministry

The leadership of leading maritime trucking associations, the COMTUA and NAMTOP has petitioned the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Samwo-Olu on the brazen extortionists’ activities of hoodlums camouflaged in the identity of both Road Transport Employer’s Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Committee (LASTCOC) on Lagos roads.

In an official petition signed by Prince Adeyinka Aroyewun, the National President of COMTUA, the petition read as follows;

“I am writing to report the activities of hoodlums and extortionists who are camouflaged in the identity of Road Transport Employer’s Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Lagos State Trucks and Cargo Committee (LASTCOC). These individuals have been extorting members of our association COMTUA and NAMTOP and causing chaos on the roads.

“The group has been mounting roadblocks on roads and illegally detaining and vandalizing our trucks. They have also been harassing and causing injuries to our drivers in the name of collecting illegal revenue tickets of Lagos State government and road maintenance, despite the pendency of the matter in court.

“We are making this report in the interest of peace and to advise against a breakdown of law and order or breach of public peace, which may ensue from their actions. The government has been lackadaisical on this matter despite several petitions to your office.

“We request that you take immediate action against these individuals to ensure that the rights of our members are protected. We also urge you to investigate these groups and bring them to justice for their illegal activities.
