The EVC of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida has argued that the smooth takeoff of the latest Executive Order on protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), will amongst other things, solve problems like vandalism, damage to fibre-optic cables, and restricted access to telecom facilities. Besides, the Order will raise stable QoS and reduce big financial losses and interrupted services.
Leading the discussion on how to protect the country’s telecom infrastructure during a recent workshop held in Abuja, Dr. Aminu Maida, said the order has created a clear way to solve problems associated with fluctuations in QoS arising from incessant cases of vandalism, damage to fibre-optic cables, and restricted access to telecom facilities.
He also commended the teamwork between government agencies, regulators, and industry leaders. According to him, this partnership is key to creating secure and reliable communication systems across Nigeria. “This is a major step towards protecting communication and digital systems in West Africa,” he noted.
The NCC boss described CNII as vital systems and networks needed for the economy, national security, public health, and safety. He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Communications, Dr. ’Bosun Tijani, for their commitment to protecting these infrastructures and supporting the economy.
NCC boss also spoke about the challenges caused by property owners and government agencies blocking access to telecom facilities. He said, “Restricted access hampers network expansion and affects service quality.”
