NERC approves DISCO’s disturbing price hike for electricity meters

With the approval of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the Nigerian Electricity Distribution Companies, or DISCOS, have announced a significant price hike for electricity meters – 28.03% to be exact.

The price hike is due to the deregulation of meter asset providers (MAPs), as directed by the NERC, who claims that the move aims to address issues surrounding meter supply and pricing transparency within the electricity sector.

This is the second price increase in just four months, with the cost of a single-phase meter jumping from N117,000 to N149,800.

The price changes vary depending on the distribution company and meter vendor.

For instance, Eko DisCo’s single-phase meter now costs between N135,987.5 and N161,035, while a three-phase meter ranges from N226,600 to N266,600.
