Eko Atlantic is a planned city located on reclaimed land along the coast of Lagos, Nigeria. It’s designed to be a modern, sustainable urban development aimed at combating issues such as overcrowding, flooding, and infrastructure shortages in Lagos. This place you are seeing used to be Atlantic Ocean some years back. As in, used to be water but it was reclaimed and turn into an oasis of paradise.
Here are some key features of Eko Atlantic:
- Land Reclamation: The city is being built on land reclaimed from the Atlantic Ocean, with the goal of providing a flood-resistant environment for Lagos’ growing population. Over 10 square kilometers of land have been reclaimed so far.
- Mixed-Use Development: Eko Atlantic is planned as a mix of residential, commercial, and business districts. It is expected to serve as a financial hub for West Africa, with modern skyscrapers, hotels, and office spaces.
- Sustainability and Infrastructure: The city aims to include sustainable infrastructure with independent power generation, water supply, and advanced drainage systems to avoid the flooding problems that often affect Lagos.
- Promenade and Sea Wall: A key feature is the “Great Wall of Lagos,” a sea wall designed to protect the city and mainland Lagos from ocean surges and coastal erosion.
- Global Investment: The project has attracted significant investment from local and international stakeholders, and developers aim to position it as a key global business destination in Africa.
Eko Atlantic is still under development, but it represents one of the largest and most ambitious urban development projects in Africa.
This is one of the biggest and most expensive city in Lagos. Land price valued at about N2.5billion naira.
