The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has argued that the decision of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to sell petrol lifted from the Dangote Refinery at a higher price than imported ones is a clear case of broad day extortionism and condemnable at a time Nigerians are gnashing their teeth over hardship. .
Recall that the NNPCL began loading the first batch of petrol from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, saying it got petrol at N898 per litre from the private refinery. Dangote Refinery denied selling petrol to the NNPCL at N898.
Whereas before buying petrol from the Dangote Refinery on Sunday, NNPCL retail outlets in Lagos sold petrol for around N855 but on Monday, the NNPC said the Dangote petrol will now sell for N950 per litre in Lagos and N1,019 in Borno prompting reactions from Nigerians.
Speaking in an interview, IPMAN National Welfare Officer, John Kekeocha, said on Channels Television on Monday, September 16, that “If NNPC can sell Dangote products higher than the imported products then it doesn’t make sense. What was the celebration we had all these while then?”.
