Whereas the Lagos State Government has given all assurance that its LASTMA and all relevant traffic management will be on ground to manage traffic crisis expected from the takeoff of fuel lifting form the Dangote Refinery, residents have come to the reality that serene road traffic era is gone and gone forever.
Flashback to over 25 to 30 years ago, every Lagos resident takes leaving in Lekki as a mini-heaven resident due to its traffic serenity and quality of roads, but all of that are fading away as a refinery which will be transporting its products on roads has started operations after all.
Analysts and some resident say we thought that the original plan was to pipe product or ferry in barges to off-takers, tank farms, deports from where marketers would take the product to petrol stations.
Already, the sole buyer of Dangote Refinery PMS, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has deployed over 100 trucks in Dangote Refinery to lift Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Besides, a visit along the Lekki highway showed that the gantry of Dangote Oil Refinery and Petrochemicals in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos has become a beehive of activity preparatory to loading of petrol on Sunday.
The NNPCL disclosed this via a post on X on Saturday, September 14, 2024 amongst other things that “In preparation for the Dangote Refinery scheduled petrol loading on Sunday, September 15, 2024, NNPC Ltd. has been mobilizing trucks to the refinery’s fuel loading gantry in Ibeju-Lekki.
“As of Saturday afternoon, NNPC Ltd. had deployed over 100 trucks, with hundreds more en route.”
Business Hilights recall that the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, had said that the Dangote refinery would begin the distribution of petrol on Sunday, September 15.
