Dangote refinery largest surface tank of 120,000,000 capacity for crude
The Chairman of Dangote group, owners of Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, Tuesday made it clear that his 650,000 bpd refinery will ensure the availability of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, in Nigeria considering the capacity to roll out not less than 25 million litres of PMS daily in this September and an increase to 30 million in October.
Also revealed is the readiness of NNPCL to sell crude oil to Dangote in Naira and buy products also in Naira to tame the tide of forex crisis in the ailing economy.
Already statistics on Nigeria’s domestic usage of PMS showed that Nigeria currently consumes not up to 20 million litres daily, so producing 25million means readiness for export after saturating the country.
Dangote gave these insights while addressing the press during the official rollout of petrol from the refinery today, (Tuesday, September 3, 2024).
Recall that on Monday that Devakumar Edwin, the Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, has announced that the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) Limited will become the sole buyer of products from Dangote Refinery as it begins production.
According to Africa’s billionaire businessman, the nation’s oil company would decide petrol pump prices as the sole buyer from the refinery.
However, what is currently disturbing Nigerians is why NNPCL is hiking pump price of PMS from 568 per litre to 855 per litre same day Dangote Refinery is resuming PMS production bearing in mind the same government limited liability company will be the sole buyer of Dangote PMS.
Another worrying question is whether the rollout of fuel form Dangote Refinery is a curse or blessing after all.
