Members of the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Commerce on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, toured the business associations at the Lagos International Trade Fair complex as part of their oversight functions to see things themselves in order to know where and how to support business activities in the massive complex.
Led by the Chairman, Hon Ahmed Munir, the House members took off their guided tour after being welcomed and briefed by the Executive Director and CEO of the complex, Barr. Vera Ndanusa with tour of the Mandilas International trade Centre, where the President, Evang. Emmanuel Ezeani addressed them while conducting them round the market. From Mandilas, the tour moved to Balogun Business Association (BBA) followed by the Trade Fair Motel where the concessionaire took them to areas that are under reconstruction and other areas where the effects of recent explosion blew off facilities that are yet to be repaired.
From the Motel, the convoy arrived at the Africa Tyre Village (ATV), the business centre of Association of Nigerian Tyre Marketers (ANTM) where the President, Alhaji Isah Akanbi Mohammed addressed the National Assembly members on their efforts sustaining the availability of genuine tyres for Nigerians.
Other business associations toured included C-Tempo, owners of Lakeview Hotel, the Auto Spare Parts and Machinery Dealers Association (ASPMDA) and rounded up with the visit to the Association Progressive Traders (APT), the African home of genuine jewelries.
Addressing business operators at ASPMDA, the House Committee Chairman; having heard from ASPMDA President, Hon. Ngozi Emechebe of the challenge of bad roads within the complex, assured that his Committee will make sure that the budget for the reconstruction of the 6km ring-road is captured in the 2025 national budget of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment under the Department of the Lagos International trade Fair Complex management Board.
Going further, Hon. Munir listened to the cries of ASPMDA President and assured that the age-long abandoned Festac link-road to the complex from Alakija through the end of 2nd Avenue Road will be extended to the Trade Fair complex to detach trade Fair bond traffic from the Lagos-Badagry Highway.
As a way of maintaining his seriousness, he assured that by next week, a team of surveyors will arrive the complex from Abuja on the instance of the House Committee on Commerce to measure the bad roads in the complex and also study the Festac link-road as well.
This good news generated excitements amongst members of the Trade Fair Stakeholders Association (LTFSA) led by the President of APT, Chief Eric Ilechukwu as the traders thanked the House members and the Complex CEO who brought the lawmakers.
